Pollution depleted Soar fish

THE Environment Agency blame pollution for the diminishing stocks of fish in the Soar.

So on Monday (30th November) thousands of fish were released into the river by the agency after it tells that thousands were killed during the summer by pollution.

About 10,000 young fish were released, including roach, dace, chub and barbel, with Fisheries Officer Matt Black stating:

"These fish are the beginning of a new era for the Soar, where populations have been badly affected by pollution. The fish and their descendants will bring the river to life once more.

The agency stated that the money comes from anglers who buy rod licences, but that it attempts to recoup the cost from polluters."
