Canal bridge to be repaired

THE Grade II listed Priest Holme Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is to be repaired at last.

The bridge was damaged last year by a vehicle, but was then compounded by thieves stealing the stone, resulting in British Waterways having to remove all the loose stone into a secure compound to stop further thefts.

British Waterways North West, Manager, Debbie Lumb, reveals that the bridge will be repaired immediately after other essential work on the waterway is completed, stating:

"While we recognise that the damage to Priest Holme Bridge is unacceptable, we are currently committed to carrying out essential maintenance work around the rest of the network, including lock gate replacements, vital repairs to our infrastructure and specialist safety improvements.

"As a result, the maintenance will be planned-in following completion of our major work."
