Leaking seal caused Anderton closure

CANAL & River Trust opened up the Anderton Lift to the public over the weekend of February 16/17, writes Peter Lloyd.

We went on Sunday. Apparently about 1,500 went on Saturday.

Leaking seal

A leaking seal on a hydraulic ram required the closure of the lift and this gave the opportunity for public to access the bottom and top of the lift. Peter's photograph shows the control room.

[It seems that openings of the Anderton Lift are met with problems, as I was at the very first opening of the lift to the public, and that time the lift loaded with the Press and television crew were unable to exit at the top as the gates  failed to open, causing great embarrassment. Perhaps it should stop such openings!—Editor]
