Policeman jumps in canal to save woman

A POLICEMAN jumped into the Kennet & Avon Canal and saved a woman from drowning.

The police received an emergency call and when officers arrived at the canal in Devizes saw a woman in difficulty in the water, with the first to arrive jumping in, Alan Tilbury reports.

Taken to hospital

She was found to be both conscious and breathing, but was taken to hospital as a precaution for a check-up.

It is understood she had been attending a match at the local rugby club.
