Rochdale Nine not opened

THE Rochdale Nine that was closed by vandalism will not be open this morning (Friday) as promised.

Canal & River Trust are unable to re-open the flight as its people have been unable to fill the empty pounds, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Lack of water

 It was discovered on Monday morning that the pounds between locks 83 to 92 were drained for the second time by vandals, but though they were quickly filled the first time, this time it is proving more problematic owing to the lack of water

So as there are not yet sufficient levels that were anticipated in order to re-open the canal, the stoppage will have to last over the weekend, with the opening not now expected until Monday.

There has been no intimation that the vandal locks will be replaced.
