Marple Flight open with restrictions

AS THERE has been no further movement with the wall of Lock 11 on the Marple Flight it has been re-opened, but with restrictions.

After being closed for the past week with no further movement, there will be a strict limit on boat widths using the flight on the Peak Forest Canal, with a maximum of 6ft 10in through Lock 11, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Marple11Assisted passage

However passages will only be allowed through the lock between 9am and 10am in the morning and 3pm and 4pm in the afternoon, and will be assisted.

Out of these times the lock will be chained-up to prevent passage.

The lock will remain open under these restriction for the remainder of the summer, but should there be any movement of the wall the lock will once again be closed to navigation, and boaters should bear this in mind.

The lock will be closed in the Autumn for permanent repair, though no actual date is given.
