Marple Flight open at last—then closed!

IT WAS last Friday when Marple Flight was eventually reopened for navigation but today is again closed!

Lock 11 is closed today for inspection of a similar problem to Lock 15—movement of a lock wall.

Took eight months

Way back last September lock 15 on the flight on the Peak Forest Canal was closed for repair to its wall that took eight months to rectify, but at last it reopened last Friday for navigation.  Then Lock 11 on the flight failed the following day, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Concerning Lock 11 we are told by Canal & River Trust that, as with Lock 15, there is movement with the lock wall and restrictions are in place meaning that boats over 6ft 10in could have problems passing through.

Restricted

Such is the concern that movement through the lock is restricted and under supervision until further notice and only during the hours of 10am to 4pm after today.

Should the problem again be similar to that of Lock 15, does that mean the flight will be closed for a further eight months? But more worrying, are other locks in the flight of 16 in the same condition?
