Northampton Arm bridge lifted

THE Northampton Arm of the Grand Union Canal has reopened with the broken bridge now out of the way.
The two balance beams had broken off with the deck in the 'down' position preventing navigation, but a crane was brought on site and the deck lifted and secured, clearing the way for boats.
No doubt this will now by a permanent fixture as there is little chance of it being repaired, having no sign of use with no distinct footpath over the waterway.
