Lock gate falls off

A LOCK gate on the Kennet & Avon Canal has fallen off and closed the canal.

This is now the end of winter maintenance when all should be well, but a lock gate on Padworth Lock (96) was is such condition that it fell off into the lock, Keith Gudgin tells us,

Top offside

This is the top offside gate of the lock, and fell off yesterday, Tuesday, and is a rarity, as we have never been aware of such an occurrence previously. 

The first thing is for Canal & River Trust to fish the gate out of the water then attempt to replace it before the waterway can be reopened.
