Filling drained canal to allow boats out

A DAM is to be installed across the canal below the breach in the MIddlewich Branch to allow the stranded boats to be removed.
Water will be pumped into the empty section from the Trent & Mersey Canal to allow the boats to float and then be locked down on to the lower canal, Keith Gudgin tells us.
Removing fish
In the meantime the living fish still in the breach section of the waterway will be removed and relocated.
The repair will be no quick-fix, but will take many months and is not expected to re-open this season.
