Progress made on Marple Flight

THE Canal & River Trust state that 'great progress', has been made on the repair to Lock 15 on the Marple Flight and it should reopen on the re-scheduled date.

It is expected that the Flight will reopen on the 29th March in time for the Easter week-end, Keith Gudgin tells us.

MarpleLock15Significent improvements

Between the repair to Lock 15 and the other work being undertaken on the flight, the Trust maintains it will be spending around £2.5m in the area over the winter and will see some significant improvements to the locks, towpaths and at the aqueduct in addition to repairs to Lock 15, pictured.

It was last September when the lock failed, it creating an 'indefinite stoppage', and though it was later told the flight would reopen today, 31st January, this was not to be.

Prevented opening

We were then told it would reopen on the 16th March, but the amount of work prevented this, with the current date set at the end of March.

The work at Lock 15 is somewhat complex owing to the confined site and it being close to houses, causing the delay.
