More canal development having problems

A PLAN by Stratford Town Council to build 1,000 homes by the Stratford Canal in the town is being held up by businesses refusing to make way for the development.

Demolishing the existing business by the canal would leave space not only for 1,000 homes but commercial premises too, but the owners of the existing business on the land are refusing to move to alternative premises, Roger Fox tells us.

Move to an airfield

The alternative is way out of town and not considered very convenient at Atherstone Airfield, with the owners wanting to remain conveniently where they are.

One of the major companies has twice refused to move, with its owners telling the council it would only move somewhere convenient, possibly to a site in the town.

The whole scheme is part of the council's Canal Quarter plan, where it wants to build by the side of the waterway and is a key part of the Core Strategy of Stratford.
