Shroppie bridge damaged

BRIDGE 100 at Barbridge has been damaged by a continental HGV coming from the nearby Boughy animal feed plant.

The brickwork on the parapet has been badly damaged causing the closure of the Barbridge to Chomoleston road, writes  David King.

There has been no disruption to the waterway up to now but repairs have yet to be started. The nearby A51 is closed to all traffic for major repairs and despite very good diversions and signage particularly 7.5 ton weight limits over the bridges, this driver obviously took this route, and this has been the consequence. (The picture is of the bridge before the latest damage.)

Another loss

The Olde Barbridge Inn, which has been for sale for some time is closed at present. It is not known at the moment if and when it will open again. Another loss of a once hugely popular canalside pub.

Venetian Marina Café is also to have a new proprietor. The present owners after building up an excellent business, extending the range in the shop and quality of food, are having to step aside for personal reasons. However, the café will continue as before with new owners, who seem equally keen and friendly. As self appointed narroboatworld food taster for the day, I can assure everyone that the food is equally as good. The new owners intend to be open more winter hours, which can only be a good thing!
