Could not remove sunken boat

THE Peak Forest Canal has been further closed since Friday with a sunken boat near Woody Footbridge.

Canal & River Trust workers attempted to raise the boat that was blocking the channel over the week-end but were unsuccessful.

It was decided to bring in its contractors to do the job, with local boaters, already hampered by the closure of Marple Flight, asking why this was not done in the first place, as Canal River Rescue are the recognised experts at removing boats whatever the situation.

It is not known if this contract has yet been finalised or the boat yet removed.
