L&L reservoir vandalised

A RESERVOIR serving the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has had to be partially emptied to undertake repairs caused by vandals removing stones from its wall.

The stones were dropped onto the underwater paddle gear of Rishton Reservoir that prevented it operating properly, allowing too much water to be released, with the outcome that the reservoir has had to be partly drained to enable a repair, Alan Tilbury reports.

Reported low water levels

It was visitors to the reservoir who reported low water levels, that prompted an investigation that discovered the problem.

The large stones that had been prised out of a wall are being removed and secured firmly in place so the mechanism can again operate properly.

This is not causing any significant problem to water supply to the canal as it is one of its smaller reservoirs.
