Rain stopped play

THE plan by Canal & River Trust to overcome the stoppage at Crofton Flight was to have volunteers assisting through the locks but it did not work out as no volunteers arrived.

The volunteers can hardly be blamed, as many of us have discovered rain is somewhat of a deterrent, and it was raining heavily all day yesterday, so the Trust had no option but to close the locks to navigation, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Steadily rising

However, the Trust reports that both pumps are now working and the level of water in the summit pound is steadily rising, with the hope that it will have recovered enough to open the navigation tomorrow, Thursday.

It is expected that by 10am the level will be high enough to allow the locks to be used, but even after the heavy rainfall access is only available from 10am to 3pm daily.
