Two more closures on Kennet & Avon Canal

Published: Wednesday, 09 August 2017

THERE is once again the 'normal' closure of the Crofton Flight due to lack of water on the summit pound, that is usually caused by the pumps being unable to cope.

But this time vandalism is being blamed for closing the flight to boat traffic with immediate effect, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Pounds on either side

The 'vandalism' is somewhat strange as we are told by Canal & River Trust that the vandalism occurred to the pounds on either side of the summit, though no further explanation was given.

However, from today, Wednesday, it is told that there will be volunteers assisting boats through the locks.  However, as it is still raining rather heavily in the area, don't bank on it!

Another stoppage

Another stoppage on the Kennet & Avon is at Church Lock (64) as the ground paddles have failed, but there is rota in place whilst repairs are undertaken with boats being allowed to pass through the lock at noon each day.
