WITH two successful floating markets already at Bradford-on-Avon on the Kennet & Avon Canal, it was certain another would be held this year.

This will take place this week-end on Saturday and Sunday 29th and 30th July from 10am to 6pm on both days. The event is organised and run voluntarily by members of the National Bargee Travellers Association, Alan Tilbury reports.

Around 30 traders

In the past two years the market has attracted hundreds of people, and is expected to do so again, with many boats and stalls selling such a variety of goods and services, with it expected that there will be around 30 traders exhibiting their work and products.

In addition to the market their will be a programme of entertainment on both days, including musicians and bands from the canal community, juggling, knot work and even lessons in playing the spoons and composing shanties.

Further market

Owing to the success of previous events, the Kennet & Avon Canal Floating Market is planning a further market and holding its first market in Newbury over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
