Extra effort for IWA festival

THE problems with Sandiacre Lock on the Erewash Canal meant the working of one boat at a time, but with a Inland Waterways Association festival taking place on the waterway, a special effort is being made by the Canal & River Trust.

This means that to prevent any hold-up to the boats using the canal to get to the festival the broad lock will be repaired to allow it to take two boats at a time, Keith Gudgin tells us.

However, it also means that the canal will be closed for a week to other traffic from 08:00 Monday 7th August to 14:00 Sunday 13th August,

This will involve the replacement of the two broken ground paddles and removal and re fitting of coping stones that reduced the width of the lock.
