Two river navigations closed

Published: Monday, 24 July 2017

YESTERDAY and today saw two river navigations closed owing to lock failures.

The Witham was closed yesterday (Sunday) at Lincoln with the failure of  Stamp End Lock, with a report that the guillotine gate lock is now out of action until further notice, Keith Gudgin tells us.

No reason for the failure has been given by Canal & River Trust, only that the navigation is now closed.

Aire & Calder

This morning, the Wakefield Branch of the Aire & Calder was also closed, a further lock failure, with the reason given that the sensors of Woodnook Lock have been damaged so the lock is inoperable.

This time no blame has been apportioned.
