Low water on the Chesterfield

Published: Monday, 24 July 2017

THE locks up to Turnerwood are currently closed on the Chesterfield Canal through lack of water.

It has been raining for days, but has had little effect on the waterway, with the narrow locks up to the summit pound closed on its eastern section through lack of water, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Extended disused section

The locks that are affected are 21 to 32, those that extended the disused section to the summit some years ago.

However it is hoped it will be a short closure in view of the rainfall.
